There are a variety of Houston GED® test sites throughout the city, including the downtown area and at multiple schools and universities.
The Texas Education Agency administers a state-wide High School Equivalency Program (HSEP) with the goal of helping to prepare eligible students for passage of the high school equivalency exams instead of a traditional diploma from a brick-and-mortar school. Specific hours and location of sites vary with seat availability. For more information, refer to the Texas Education Agency’s site http://tea.texas.gov/HSEP/.
The City of Houston offers a number of HSEPs, as any school district or open enrollment charter school in the state can apply to operate a HSEP. The Texas Workforce Commission handles Adult Basic Education in the State of Texas and administers prep classes for those wishing to take the GED.
In the Houston area, the best place to get started is with a local adult education center. The teachers at your local center will offer you free help to learn about the test, study for the test, and pass every section. They’ll help you every step of the way as you complete your high school equivalency diploma.
